the last few days have been interesting ones. yesterday was especially eventful.
1) two girls got in a fight yesterday, throwing fists, screaming profanities, kicking, pulling hair... lovely. the best part was that one of the girls is pregnant, and when other students pleaded with her to stop, she screamed something about not bleeping caring about the baby. well, then. i'm sure she'll make a spectacular mother. seriously... select sterilization would solve so many of the world's problems. (and you think i'm joking...)
2) at about the same time, in another part of the school, a skinny russian kid started threatening a ghetto-fab baby daddy, saying he was going to have the russian mob come after him and other sick things quietly so the teachers wouldn't pick up on it... well, baby daddy is not so sneaky, so he chose to start yelling threats at the other kid. lots of gangsta talk, the whole thing was so stupid & childish, i almost laughed. the great part is, all the kids in daycare could hear. lovely.
3) more joys were in store for later. one of my students thinks it's perfectly acceptable to tell people how stupid they are, or how ugly they are, or pretty much anything else that she thinks is true. my favorite is when she calls us "wicked" because we won't let her sleep in class. anyways, she was heavily insulting another student all day, who is more mature (and therefore, more tolerant of stupid behavior). this student did a good job of ignoring her until the last hour of the day, at which point she snapped and threw a few right back at her. when student #1 realized that she was going to lose this battle, she tried to make amends by saying, "it's ok, we're friends, we're both muslims, right?" wrong. student #1 is as much a muslim as hitler was a Christian. all talk, no walk, you know what i'm saying? student #2 is a devout muslim who actually practices her religion. she always rolls her eyes when #1 talks about what a great muslim she is (she had a baby at 16 and named him Mohamed, gave up her fake hair for ramadan, and, well, that's it). instead of the usual eye roll, student #2 threw up her arms and said "HA!" (as in ha, yeah, right, you're the worst muslim ever.) this made #1 mad and want to to fight. have you ever seen anyone in a hijaab fight? i sure haven't... and i don't want to!
oy. i think that's entirely enough for now. haha kudos to you if you actually read all of that. and, if you're wondering, today went much better. i think the kids had some sense knocked into them when the two girls that fought were expelled. hmmm...
verse: romans 12:2. one of my favorites... ever.

2007.10.13 & 14 mmm... kickball.
uh oh, we're getting on the every other day schedule... can you tell i'm tired?
besides that, i don't have much to write today. my brain is on empty.
jim & tami's housewarming party was yesterday, which was fun... at chili, played kickball, babysat sophie... yeah, that makes for a pretty sweet day, i'd say. people kept slipping on the grass and totally wiping out which, of course, made it more amusing for me. and the weather was amazing. unlike the damp chill that blanketed us today.
my sweet annie called today... it's always a treat to talk to her. i miss living in the same state. san fran is so far away from here, in so many ways.
proverbs 4:20-27... i read & underlined it awhile back but pastor john brought it up again in his sermon today. what a great passage.

2007.10.12 the failings of relativity
i am saddened tonight after talking with a friend.
it is so strange how there can be such a gap in communication, one that cannot be bridged unless someone compromises their core beliefs. what is true for one person can completely contradict what is true for another. for example, this friend of which i speak would consider humility and always putting others before and above you a large weakness. i, on the other hand, think that egotism and always looking out for yourself before others is not only weak, but detrimental to society. he would say the same about my beliefs.
the issue that always comes up is abortion. it is frustrating to me to know someone who is convinced that it's legality is completely moral and constitutional, because i think that it is quite the opposite. the problem is our worldviews are almost entirely opposite.
Jude 1:4 speaks of false teachers, but i think it rings true for much of the world, too. how sad. how heartbreaking. why are some chosen to know the truth and others utterly blind to it? that is a question that i will never be able to answer to the liking of my tiny, human brain. on that note... goodnight.

2007.10.10/11
there is no substitute for good food and good company. put the two together, and it doesn't get much better. what a great evening. i'm going to sleep happy and full :)
went to the doc today, the baby is doing well. what a fiesty little sucker! they had to take blood which is always sickening. haha i'm such a baby when it comes to needles, thanks to the novocaine needles at the dentist. SICK!
soooo glad it's friday tomorrow! all the kids took their brat pills this morning before they came to school. and everyone knows how great kids are on fridays. oy vey. pray for what little sanity i have left to remain intact, hahaha!
and, of course, the verses (there are two, since i fell asleep before writing a blog yesterday):
2 corinthians 4:5-6. love it.

2007.10.09 raccoons & sacrifices
thought of the day:
what is up with the animals around here? they are CRAZY!
first, mice ate hamburgers right out of out grill. that's sick.
then, this morning, jake noticed raccoon prints ON his car... they were trying to get to a bag of dog food in the trunk! weirdos!
ok, one more thing... i made mashed potatoes today. i think they are my favorite food... ever. or maybe it's just these crazy cravings... haha...
verse of the day:
romans 12:1.
goodnight!

2007.10.08
my brain is dead for today. it made it a long time, actually... but it quit about half an hour ago. at which point the baby started beating me up. funny how those things correlate...
i want to try to write in here on a regular basis. i always say that, and i never do... but this will make two days in a row! haha!
in conclusion, here is my thought of the day, which is not even my own:
"the way to clean your life up is to learn the book."
amen, johnny mac!
p.s. less than a month 'til maui. i can make it. i can make it.

2007.10.07 thought of the day.
most of the time i feel like i don't have a lot to say. well, that's a lie. i should rephrase it.
it would be much more true to write that what i have to say usually doesn't matter-- that is, has no eternal or even lasting weight, and i have recently become aware of this. i have always been (overly) opinionated, which i used to think was important... at least i knew what i thought about various issues in case someone asked. now i realize that unless i am actually doing something to confirm or change the things i have such strong feelings about, who cares?
one of my favorite quotes reads, "Good intentions are NOTHING without action." it's so true. if i believe it, i should be living every day for it and everything i do should be inline with it. if i am opposed to it, i should be working to change it. and that's all there is to it. complacency is meaningless, heartless, and ultimately WORTHLESS.
so... DO SOMETHING!
